I do it. You do it. And we all know better.
Often it’s when I’m making a berry smoothie. I fill the blender with frozen berries, and then move to add ice. I reach into the bin in our freezer. I scoop a couple pieces. That feels like an inefficient trip for my hand, though. Two-by-two will take forever. I squeeze one or two more pieces into my palm. I begin the return trip to the blender. And then, something happens: one of those cubes slips right out of my hand and skates across the kitchen. Now I have to locate it and pick it up.
Why do I do this? Am I overzealous? Perhaps greedy? I end up saving no time. In fact, I probably lose time. Had I taken two pieces only, or perhaps even a single piece, I wouldn’t have dropped any, I wouldn’t have to pick anything up.
I’m trying to learn to be O.K. with two pieces at a time. It feels wrong, even wasteful. But I don’t drop any.
